Swissbau stands as Switzerland’s leading trade fair for the construction and real estate industries. Held biennially at Messe Basel, it serves as a pivotal platform for professionals to explore innovations, discuss trends, and foster collaborations within the sector.
Established in 1974, Swissbau originated as a specialized segment of the Schweizer Mustermesse (Swiss Sample Fair). The inaugural event featured 314 exhibitors and attracted approximately 40,000 visitors. By 1981, attendance had surpassed 100,000, and the exhibitor count exceeded 1,000 by 1983. In 1997, the fair experimented with alternating annual focuses on structural engineering and interior construction. However, in 2005, it reverted to a comprehensive biennial format, encompassing the entire building lifecycle. A significant milestone was reached in 2012 with the integration of Hilsa, the Swiss trade fair for building technology, and the introduction of Swissbau Focus, a platform dedicated to events and networking. The 2014 edition marked the fair’s debut in Messe Basel’s new hall complex, designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
